What Exactly Are Wardrobes?
My mother-in-law is very old fashioned, and used all kinds of words I’ve never heard of. For example, she says “davenport” instead of couch or sofa, even when we’re in a very informal setting. Yesterday she went on and on about the wardrobes she had been looking at the other day. I don’t even know what a wardrobe is! I mean, she spent a good ten minutes telling me about the ones she saw, about the finials and stains and finishes, but not one word that would actually tell me what she was talking about. And of course I couldn’t ask her to define it for me!
