Why is Missouri so big?

I never thought of Missouri as a large state but the must really rely on tourists for their economy. They have Northwest Missouri tourism, Southwest Missouri tourism, but no east Missouri tourism. Do they not understand that there is a lot to do in St Louis? My sister and her family live there and they are always doing the tourist things, but that’s just the way they are. They spent three years in Switzerland and just about every other weekend they were seeing new places in Europe. The went to France a lot. Surprisingly enough language was not a problem. They did have to use a lot of hand gestures, but they got by.
